I had a good success with this product. I am not a proficient DIYer by any stretch of the imagination so set off with some trepidation, but as other reviewers have said, the instructions were pretty foolproof. I had one query and rang the helpline where I received the help I needed. The whole process took me about 3 hours. I am particularly pleased with the filling of chips which you would never know were there now. I have a shiny white bath for minimal cost and effort. Result!

I've never used Tubby products before but thought I'd give it a go, and it was a lot cheaper than getting someone in to resurface the bath. I gave it a go and although there was a fair bit of work involved, the bath looked pretty good if I say so myself, with easy to follow steps you really can't go wrong and I would advise anyone thinking of resurfacing a bath to buy the tubby kit, I know I'll use it again.

I have just finished applying your product to my bath.  The application was easy enough, as you stated.  The only disappointment is the orange peel effect.  I am assuming that this cannot be avoided when using the roller.  You mention in the instructions 'orange peel', but I didn't realize there would definitely be orange peel, removing this effect will require some effort, and more expense.

Our reply: Not everyone gets orange-peel - it is mostly dependent upon the temperature in the room and may sometimes be because the material has been over-rolled too much. However, it is relatively easy to remove. Just buy a sheet of 1200 or 1500 grit wet/dry abrasive paper and some T-Cut Car Polish (both available from Halfords). Wet-sand the bath, dry it out thoroughly, and then polish really hard. This should remove all the orange-peel and also provide you with a spray-like finish. Please wait 7 – 10 days after resurfacing before doing this as the material is still curing for the first couple of days (although it is fine to use the bath after 48 hours).

We live in a former game keeper’s cottage which we rent. Our bathroom needed a serious make over. The cast iron bath was stained and rusting.  It probably needed to be in the field as a drinking trough for the cattle! The landlord had agreed to replace it but where can you get a bath of the same depth and style. We must have looked at hundreds of baths and options. I came across the Tubby site and asked if anything could be done about the rust problem. Tubby quickly responded with advice which we followed. We then purchased the Tubby bath kit and last weekend set about doing some DIY on the bath. My husband did the sanding and filling and I did the painting. It was worth taking the time with the preparation. Because the result is amazing!!! We keep going into the bathroom and looking at the bath to check it has not washed away. The beautiful art deco taps that you didn’t really notice before really stand out. It looks great and the whole thing was so simple. Well done Tubby and thank you from an old rusty cast iron bath which could be in a field now!

I have an acrylic egg-shaped wash-basin that needed re-coating. The wash-basin kit that arrived on the promised day had the wrong colour coating, so I had to wait a day for the replacement. I went through all the preparation work as instructed, ending up with a smooth, keyed surface. The rollers were too long to accommodate the curves of the basin, so I cut them in half. They then applied the coating evenly. But the result after rolling on two coats was not as smooth as I had been led to expect, it was dimpled. Where I had brushed the coating on the more awkward places the result was beautifully smooth. So I brushed another coat all over. The result is acceptable and a marked improvement over the pre-coating state, but certainly not as smooth as new.

Our reply: Thank you for your comments – we are sorry that there were problems with the wrong colour being sent. In regards to the final result, obviously using rollers it is impossible to get an extremely smooth result but it is possible to improve this by polishing it. Get a sheet of 1500 wet/dry abrasive paper and some T-Cut Car polish, wet-sand the sink and then polish with the T-Cut. This should give you a spray-like finish. Please wait 7 – 10 days after resurfacing before doing this as the material is still curing for the first couple of days (although it is fine to use the bath after 48 hours).

I would just like to say thank you for a wonderful product, I have just spent the weekend resurfacing my very old bath. We all now need sunglasses to go into the bathroom it is so white. The speed of the delivery service was excellent and the end result is terrific and being 50ish I only found it a little bit hard on the sanding side but other than that no problems. I have just finished re enamelling my old Victorian bath using a Tubby kit. I am delighted with the result - it has come up as good as new. The kit was so easy to use and very self-explanatory; it contained all that was necessary. Thank you for making it so simple. It was so much cheaper than getting someone in to do it and the results would have been no better. There is nothing I can suggest to improve the product.

This is my third purchase of Tubby products over the last 2 years - Fantastic product! Easy to use, with great results. Used on 2 Shower trays at home (changed colour from dark peach to white) and just about to do another. I am really pleased with the results and have saved money on replacements. It was much easier to use Tubby and change the colour than remove the shower trays and enclosure to replace them. Applied it myself and just followed the easy to use instructions - everything I needed was included. My advice - don't hesitate in making a purchase you won’t regret it.

This is not because I am brilliant at DIYing but because the information available on your web site about tackling the job is so thorough that I think I will be able to do it. The job is done and it was a success. I have two more baths to do- one of them is green- will two coats cover? I have some of the paint left –how long does it keep and is it practical to do the bottom only of the second bath. I have a stock of wet and dry paper but none of your cleaner left – what is alternative?

Our reply: Yes two coats will cover the green colour. Once the material is mixed you only have a couple of hours to use it before it hardens, so unfortunately you will need to purchase another kit to do the second bath. You will need to resurface the whole bath as it is not possible to just do the bottom – if you did the water would gradually wear away at the edges and the material would peel off. Plus, the bath would look silly as it would be two shades of white!

Thank you for your email of 27 April. I found your delivery service fast and efficient. As far as the product is concerned I finally had time to use it last week. The instructions were straightforward and clear. I ordered the amount to resurface a shower tray with 2 coats of enamel (tray was a deep square tray measuring 90cm square). However when it came to using the actual enamel I found that the amount supplied was insufficient to coat the surface adequately with 2 complete coats even though both coats were put on and spread very thinly. Perhaps the amount supplied was really only sufficient for a basin?

Our reply: The standard size of a shower tray is normally (approximately) 760mm by 760mm, so your shower tray is actually quite large. We normally recommend purchasing the bath kit if the shower or basin is larger than normal to ensure adequate coverage. This means you have to discard some material at the end, but it does ensure that there is enough material. We will supply you with a tin of material so that you can do a third full coat on the tray.

Could I just say what a wonderful product this is and that my old cast iron bath has come out like new.  I was on the verge of throwing it out and going for a new plastic one but I'm really glad we tried this first.

I was thinking of getting a bath pillow but can you let me know if the sucker pads will affect the new enamel covering?

Our reply: Thank you for your kind comments. You can use a bath pillow but do not leave the sucker pads permanently attached to the surface because soapy residue will gather under the suckers and this will gradually soften the material and cause it to detach from the surface. (The same reason we recommend not leaving non-slip mats in the bath).

30/11/2009: Hi, I have just received my parcel and when I opened the plastic bag there was a smell of fumes. When I opened the box there was some of the white paint spilled inside the box. It is on the black brush and some of the other accessories. Can you advise what I should do?

Our reply: Sorry for the problems – unfortunately this does happen occasionally whilst the kit is in transit. We have despatched a new kit for you this afternoon to replace the one that leaked.

As I have now had the recoated tub in use for a few weeks, I thought it appropriate to send you a few words. I am far from a DIY expert, this being our first home. However, the instructions for the most were very clear and every individual step was very doable. The final result has come out very well, given my lack of experience. There are a few minor runs that I could still sand/polish away, but other than that it looks great.

With regard to the process there are two things I’d like to note. As I suspected, I had to remove the previous coating (from the former owners) before starting on the Tubby process proper. While you provided a good recommendation to use Nitromors, I would have appreciated a clearer note on this point on the web site. Either it wasn’t there or I missed it. The second point concerns the degreaser/adhesion promoter step. Given the volatility of the solvent, it seemed impossible to keep the whole tub “damp”, as you wrote. I did my best, and it seems to have worked, but it certainly didn’t look “damp”.

Other than that, great product, good collection of tools and supplies in the bigger box, making for a very doable if time-consuming DIY job even for a relative novice.

I had an old steel bath that was looking very grotty cause of the worn paint and thought about disposing of it as getting hold of bath enamel in any DIY store was near impossible, I came across tubby.com while trying to take one last chance at reviving my old tub, I have to say this site was great, very informative and ease of use, I purchased it online and it was delivered very prompt the next day. Initially I was hesitant as I thought that reviving the tub would be a complex job but the tubby bath kit with the step by step instructions was a breeze even for an amateur like me, the kit itself is great, I purchased the budget one and you literally have everything you need to get the job done! After preparing the tub and applying just the first coat I was amazed as my old tub looked new, after waiting for an hour and a half I applied the second coat and all I can say is how amazed I am with the result, the tub I used to try not to look at and was embarrassed by when I had guests over is now the pride focal point of my bathroom. It’s almost hard to believe it is the same tub but that is the most amazing thing about the product the ease of use and the result. I feel I have saved a fortune from finding this tub kit and not discarding of my tub for a new one.

I bought the repair kit for a couple of chips in my roll top bath which you resurfaced very well for me about 15 years ago. I used the kit over the weekend and it seems to have worked OK but I did have one problem - I wanted to fill a couple of the blemishes but was caught out at just how fast the filler cured. I mixed the filler before degreasing and within a couple of minutes the filler was so hard as to be unworkable. I carried on using the "material" only. However I think your instructions should make it clearer that the filler needs to be used the moment it's mixed.

Our reply: Yes the filler does dry very quickly. We will try and make the instructions clearer for future customers.

I received my shower tray painting kit the following day of order. I'd never attempted to do anything like painting a metal shower tray but with the straight forward no nonsense instructions I was prepared to give it a go, firstly to change colour from pink to white and also to cover up some not so minor damage to the surface. Thank you for all your kind assistance regarding my enquiry about resurfacing an already "Tubbied" bath. As I explained I did not do the job very well in the first place, hence the re-application. All has gone well with the second application although I found the use of the filler to be not very satisfactory as the slight pitting on the bottom of the bath, in retrospect, really did not warrant the use of the filler. It was difficult to achieve a completely smooth surface. I have, however, now obtained a very acceptable finish and am happy with it.

We found Tubby UK through an Internet search for alternatives to professional bath re-coating services. We had our bath re-coated professionally 8 years ago, but the DIY bug combined with cost savings led to thinking "why not give it a go ourselves?". Tubby UK's website convinced us that it was easy - not an easy thing to do as our reason was to get the bath looking as new before putting our place on the market. However, in the back of our minds was still a doubt that "surely it can't be that easy" but that if it went wrong, at least we tried and then we could always revert to professionals.  To make sure we didn't have to cut any corners or have to go off and panic buy other unforeseen items, especially in the middle of the job, we went for the Tubby Extra kit and the order was turned around as quickly as promised. The neatly packaged kit, again as promised, had everything we needed for the job (a great collection of items brought together). The instructions are detailed, faultless and should be followed to the letter.

With a deep breath (talking of which - plenty of ventilation), we went onto the painting stage. As instructed, don't overdo the first coat - the second coat will be the stage that you really see the transformation. Good or bad at DIY, if you follow the instructions - you will walk away proud of a professional looking job. Those of a nervous disposition, have a partner with you to cross-check & verify instructions and provide encouragement. The only thing I am unsure of is whether we were supposed to achieve a very smooth (shiny, light reflective) finish. Our finish came out with an extremely slight "orange peel" effect (the instructions talk of how to avoid the orange peel effect) - but because our bath is old and has minor structural imperfections, the finish that we achieved helps scatter light and the bath looks as new - much better for us than a completely smooth and light reflective finish. To us, it now looks like a white enamelled, solidly constructed cast iron bath. If you have any concerns as to what finish to expect, call Tubby and discuss it through with them.

I would rate this at 10/10 for the kit, and 10/10 for delivering expectations and giving the user self-confidence in their own DIY capabilities. Although not needed, I am confident that the email and phone advice would also live up to this rating.

I will make sure I spread the word here in the Netherlands as I've tried to find something to do up my bath for months now but they simply don't sell it here. The only advice people gave me was to buy a new bath! This is definitely a cheaper option and hopefully in a few weeks time, I have a bath that looks brand new!

Thank you for your prompt action in dispatching your Tubby product, we received the parcel next day. The product itself seems very good and well thought out in the way everything is provided to carry out the work. I was disappointed with the final finish that I achieved with the bath which does not have a consistent smooth finish, more a Hammerite mottled look.

I was disappointed with this as I followed the instruction leaflet to the letter, this disappointment turned to frustration when I found a separate Additional Notes sheet in a marketing leaflet when discarding the packaging, this I feel should have been attached or included in the main instructions. Is there any way around this now?

Our reply: Sorry about that – the extra instructions are normally attached to the main ones so I am not sure why they weren’t in your kit. Anyway, you can easily flat down and polish the surface of the bath to provide an extremely smooth finish. You will need a sheet of 1200 grit wet/dry abrasive paper and some T-Cut car polish. Not wanting to completely renew our bathroom suite just because the cast iron bath had lost its shine and could no longer be cleaned easily, we were reluctant to start resurfacing in case it wasn't successful. Eventually we plucked up the courage, followed the instructions carefully paying particular attention to the prep work, and successfully completed the task. We didn't like the high shine, so we took your advice and rubbed the bath down with very fine sand paper and polished the bath with T-Cut car polish. Now we are thrilled with the results and very pleased with the product and helpful guidance throughout.

"This is not the first time I have used this product, in fact I did a complete corner bath in woking, a real high spec house but the bath was very old and we were unable to match its size and quality. Needless to say we tried "Tubbies" and did it come up a treat, the owner was absolutly gob-smacked and insisted that I had changed the bath, he could not believe it, no I told him three coats of "Tubbies". This order was not quite as lucrative but still came up trumps, the entire lip of an enamel bath had been chipped by the previous tennants, anyway the landlord did not want to pay for an entire new bath in and out so I did the lip and yes once more came up trumps, he was pleased. You know I am losing business becusae of your product, I am supposed to be ripping bathrooms out and fitting new ones but good old "Tubbies" comes up trumps every time. "I want to make a comment on the product  Tubby -  This is wonderful product - I have an old victorian bath which was professionally surfaced 15 years ago - it was getting really tatty - surface was lifting - had green stains.  I bought your tubby kit - but had to strip off the old surface which I did with nitromors (took two days hard work) ... once back to basic I started coating my bath with your product....left it for 2 days..........IT IS MAGIC - but ok I had to spend 2 days in prep and 2 days in surfacing - but it was worth every minute!"

"I have placed a repeat order for the toilet outside as I was delighted with the finish on the bath and basin.   Cleanliness is the answer to the prep as the finish is so fine that any little bit of grit will show but can easily be sanded off after 10 days. Yes a bit of work is involved but when I compare it to a new suite and making good - peanuts.   The second coat gives a real instant effect - Even my wife was pleased (That takes some doing) so 5 stars."

"Im so very pleased with this and the finish it has given me. I actually did an old ceramic shower tray, which had discoloured and had a crack in it. Once fillered and sanded I carefully applied the paint, which was unbelievabily easy to do.
One point though to be carefull of is to make sure that there isnt ANY dust or debris anywhere near where youre painting; I somehow managed to get some bits into my paint in 1 corner, but that was purely my carelesness and not the products.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting to update/refresh a shower or bath, and as long as you have half a brain cell then you cant go wrong. Just be carefull of anything to contaminate the paint!"

"Your product was delivered speedily, unfortunately it took me a long time to build up the courage to use it. The worst part for me was the preparation work, but
I always think that is also the most necessary thing to get a good result.
When I came to re-surface I found I had ordered the wrong shade (the tray was twenty years old) but I contacted you and the next day I received everything I needed to complete the job.
The re-surfacing itself was really easy and it is lovely to see a nice shiny
shower tray instead of the dull, scratched finish I was used to. It really has
given it a new lease of life and it was well worth taking the time to do.

"The enamel replacement looks hopeful to last a long time as the white is almost unnoticeable. I found it easier to smear it on using my finger instead of using the sticks and my finger was easy to clean using olive oil and a kitchen scouring green pad, the type which often has a sponge attached. It gave a nice even finish. Anyway the product can save a lot of money for the average pocket."

"I recently bought a house which had an old cast iron bath which was all brown. I decided to paint it will tubby and paint the feet silver. WOW it looks absolutley gorgeous. Looks like it cost a £1000 when all I did was pay £39.62. It looks brand new, all smooth and shiny, and so easy to apply. What an excellent product I would recommend to every one. "I couldn't afford a new bathroom suite as it would have meant retiling of the bathroom with new plastering of walls, also cost of getting a plumber in, would have cost over £1000 in total. Bought this kit & the Basin kit too. Did the work at 6pm on Friday night & was finished by 10pm, Follow the instructions & do your prep work. The Painting part takes no time at all.

I have now rid my house of an horrific Avocado Suite & have a brand new clean & smooth White Suite.

I am so pleased, I have recommended the kits to anyone considering buying a brand new suite, I live in an old victorian house & the kit makes the bathroom look authentic again.

Can I just say that the Tubby kit is an excellent product - I am really impressed with the results. I was getting lots of disparaging looks from my family who thought I was bonkers to even attempt to resurface the bath but they are all converts now. Everyone thinks I did a brilliant job. I really wish I had taken before and after pictures to remind myself how horrible it was compared to how shiny and white it is now! Ah well!

"This weekend I have used the Tubby-kit and I am so happy with the result. My bathtub is now white and shining and easy to clean. I must have looked at the bathtub at least 50 times, just to admire it!
And yes it was easy to do. The instructions are excellent.
I have experienced a great service and help from Mend-A-Bath DIY Products. I saw the product used on a bathtub in a BBC Prime programme called "Big Strong Girls" and wanted to do the same to my old and worn out bathtub. However, living in Denmark it proved to be a problem, as we do not have a company selling such a product. But I went on the Internet and found Mend-A-Bath and had a long e-mail exchange with Rob and Rosemary Hamilton, and because of their interest, kindness and effort I got the Tubby-Kit sent to Denmark. So I am now the very happy owner of a white, shining bathtub and all I did was follow the instructions. Now some of my friends will
probably want to get the Tubby-kit too and give their bathtub a make-over.
